Following a Name Your Team contest and fan vote that garnered nearly 3,000 submissions, the Zebulon Devil Dogz have been announced as the newest member of the Coastal Plain League. The name connects the town’s local textile history and a personality built on toughness and character with the fierce temperament of Tasmania’s native devils from Australia. The Devil Dogz roster will feature Australian players in a unique partnership with Oz Ball Australia, with the team’s first game at Five County Stadium on Friday, May 22, 2026. Season tickets and mini plan packages are now available and can be purchased at ZebulonDevilDogz.com.
“This is a very exciting day for the Town of Zebulon and the Coastal Plain League,” said Coastal Plain League commissioner Chip Allen. “We are incredibly thankful for the support from the Board of Commissioners, and for the passion and enthusiasm shown by the residents of the Town of Zebulon and surrounding area, and look forward to the Devil Dogz providing an exceptional baseball experience for fans of all ages for many years to come.”
“Zebulon deserves something special. Something that feels international, yet community-driven, and something built specifically for this town and its people. Throughout our Name The Team process the choice was abundantly clear,” said Devil Dogz General Manager Caleb Whittemore. “We want our fans to be part of our team. We want them to have an unforgettable experience and receive incredible value with a full night of entertainment without worrying about costs adding up. We will put the fan experience first, even when that means choosing the harder path.”
“On behalf of Oz Ball, we want to express how genuinely excited and honored we are to be part of the Zebulon community and the Coastal Plain League family,” said Kevin Fenn, Founder and Managing Director of Oz Ball Australia. “Baseball has always had the power to connect people across oceans, cultures, and generations. We want our players to contribute positively to this community to respect it, engage with it, and represent both Australia and Zebulon with pride. We are grateful to the Coastal Plain League, to Commissioner Chip Allen, and to the local leadership and fans who have welcomed us. Your support allows us to pursue something bigger than wins and losses.”
Nearly 3,000 submissions and over 900 unique names were received as part of the Name Your Team contest. After narrowing down five finalists to a fan vote, Devil Dogz was the overwhelming favorite, recording more than 80 percent of the votes.
Season ticket and mini plan packages are now available for the 2026 season, and can be purchased at ZebulonDevilDogz.com. For more information on group tickets, including suites and party areas, fans may call Aidan Varrialle at 919-744-3075 or emailing [email protected].
Theme nights and promotions will be announced on a later date, along with the coaching staff and roster, while single-game tickets will go on sale beginning in early April.
Devil Dogz players and coaches will also be in need of host homes for the upcoming inaugural 2026 season. Since they are uniquely coming from Australia and will not have a community or housing and as NCAA student athletes, these players are not allowed to accept pay to play. In effect local families are relied on to house players so they have an opportunity to compete this summer. Those interested in being a host family can reach out to General Manager Caleb Whittemore at (207) 317-1081 or [email protected].
